Note from dmether: I'll try to get this sequence in the right order. This picture is of Subic Bay, Nov 44. A month before the Oryoku Maru, however it's oil slick can be seen in later photographs.

-David sent these pictures and I am also not sure that I have these 8 pictures from David in the right sequence. It is where the Oryoku Maru got sunk but I chose it because what seems to be big oil slick nearby. (KWW)

-I love this picture because that is the clearest picture I seen of how the hinterland of the Olongapo Port,-Town and the Olongapo Naval Station looked like!

NOTE FROM KARL, THIS 10th July 2020: This picture is mislabeled!

This attacked ship is not the infamous Oryoku Maru, it looks more like freighter and it was attacked on the 19th Nov 1944 and not in Dec. 1944 when the Oryoku Maru was attacked and sunk in Olongapo. It must have been my fault when I reposted many of the pictures because they had disappeared.

Looks like it has sunk by this time.


And the tragic story of the of the Allied POWs on the Oryoku Maru continues until most have suffered death and unspeakable misery in the hands of the forces of Imperial Japan.

Very revealing photos, dmether. The tennis court where over 1300 POWs spent the next six days can be seen, too. The small splashes  immediately beneath the ship are groups of survivors swimming to the beach.
