Great stuff! Thanks for posting. I wish I could have gone there with you back in the summer of 1986 but I distinctly remember being in Baguio that summer. That was just a couple of months short of my 16th bday. I'd really like to spend several days checking out all the Bataan battlefields but a day trip everytime I come home is all I can manage. The last trip in February, I checked out the Abucay Hacienda area with Karl. Some pictures from that hike here: corregidor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=46Anyway, when I come home again next year. I have to visit Morong. I promised Ed Ramsey I'd go check it out. When I showed pictures of Bataan battlefields (that I've been to) at the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society reunion in May, Col. Ramsey seemed disappointed that I didn't have anything on Morong. So my next trip will have to be Morong. Looking forward to whatever info you have on the Points.

hey batts.....i am certain that mapmaster is proud of your efforts. major military operations have been planned and executed on far meager renditions of terrain, emplacements, etc. "you the man".

It's great isn't it? And this was before Google maps. I may have to print it out to take with me next year when I visit Morong And thanks for clarifying Moron vs. Morong. I've always wondered about which one's the real name.

I've been dreaming of just a trip like this to the points. In December 2007 I originally wanted to visit Longoskawayan point but discovered that a day out of Manila would not suffice. I went to Mabatang instead which is easy to get to. Also I couldn't find anyone who was free or interested enough for such a thing. People thought it strange that I'd even go to Bataan. Karl was the only one willing to hike around with me and interested enough in the history.
Thanks for posting the sketches and commentaries Batteryboy.

hey guys...until i refresh my mind viewing maps of the mariveles area, i tend to forget just how close the japs were to the town. the other "points" landings were, of course, more remote, but those on longoskawayan point are kinda scary with hindsight. had they entered mariveles things could certainly have become complicated when it came to clearing them out, etc, if that had even been possible. i would think that they could have been pinched off and eliminated, but what chaos there would have been.

I agree Okla, it would have been quite a mess. Good thing they dug in and waited... maybe for orders or the rest of the battalion. Who knows... Let's recon the area... I'd love to go there. (click for bigger) Longoskawayan Point Closer view: looks like there's a dirt road that leads to it. I wonder what those structures are... houses? Even closer: looks like driveable from Mariveles Mt. Pucot

It looks to me that most of the peninsula is pretty much grasslands now and should be an easier hike. It doesn't look like you have to hack into jungle to make a path. It might be possible to drive up to where the suspected houses are and trek down the length of the peninsula.

hey guys....those mortar rounds from corregidor, although armor piercing and not anti personnel, still must have been terrifying for the japs at "longo" point.

hey batts....as i have said numerous times, i learn something on this board everyday. all these years i have thought that the mortar ammo was armor piercing for use against ships and now i learn that corregidor had a stock of HE for mortars. thanks for the update. i betcha those babies blew the japs in the area of impact all the way to singapore.
