Its nice to see WWII Baguio Pictures. I need to read more about WWII Baguio, when WWII history in the Philippines is concerned its mainly the Leyte landing,Bataan,Coregidor and Manila that is being emphasized in schools.
I wonder what is the story in that Photo looks like the Buildings roof was burned out and in the modern pictures looks like damage from the 1990 Baguio quake.

Very interesting point you make there Joe.
I am also under the impression that if they had decided to attack Formosa with B-17s they would have send them with out fighter escort? and like you said the Japanese will be on the alert.
Do the Japanese have radar in Formosa I think not.
I know the USA has a radar in Iba airfield.

I would like to raise a controversial topic about the use of the US of artillery. Many seem to loosely condemn it but in my opinion, it is a "necessary evil" to finish off the Japanese resistance quickly What some revisionist fail to realize is that the Japanese are firing their mortars and howitzers from Intramuros on the same day the STO.Tomas camp was liberated and the shells from the Japanese battery are landing in civilian homes in the Quiapo and Sampaloc area. I am sorry I have no intention to clutter up this thread but I have been reading posts from a certain Facebook group and I often time see comments criticizing the use of artillery etc, and it just makes me mad that some people are so blinded by hate they would twist history to fit their propaganda.

They include battery Geary on the day tour now,? But why is it when I visited in 2011, we were not taken to that spot? Now I really felt robbed of some fun.!!
That piece of concrete wedge inside the tree at battery way really intrigues me.
I wonder if those 12inch rounds can still go KABOOM!!!

I am really intrigue by Onoda's story too bad he did not want to talk about his time in Lubang what I want to know is what he felt when he arrived in Manila in 1974 and realized that Japan and the Philippines is in good terms again and during that time Japanese cars are starting to become popular here.
I don't like the idea that he killed more than a dozen poor farmers, but what is amazing is he still insisted to surrender ceremoniously by handing out his sword and riffle he does not even need to do that but he insisted.
I would say he is an unfortunate victim of WWII cruelty he was told by his officers that he is not allowed to commit suicide either.
------------------- Some what a bit off topic.
You can in the last photo posted by xray you can see a man on PAF uniform but only partially but you can still make out the name tag its Gen.Rancudo 12th Commanding General of the Philippine Airforce , PAF (15 January 1972- 27 March 1976),
He is also a WWII Vet and guerrilla, he was imprisoned in tarlac during the japanese occupation and was killed in 1987 by communist insurgents.
An Airfield in the Spratly island chain is named after him Rancudo air field

Hi Okla awesome first hand account regarding that "engine problem". I am just curious do all airforce personel undergo parachute training with a live jump? Or that would have been your first jump had you elect to bail out?
