Which field did Babe Ruth play on? Corregidor and in Manila? Rizal Memorial Stadium. I think he was the first one to homer a baseball outside the stadium. I think the marker is still there.

Yes, that flag pole. Do you know exactly which one it is? Also, thats a very nice photo, my copy is not that clear, where did you copy that from? The wire from the pole going off to the left side of the photo does not show up on my pic. Very cool. Thanks Dan It came from a US Army Signal Corp photo series. I cant determine the exact pole where it was. Regards,

hey batts....if memory serves, and as i oft state, it sometimes doesnt these days, joe garagiola, the former catcher for the st louis cardinals and NBC broadcaster, supposedly smacked a homer out of rizal at one of the most distant parts of the outfield. this was in 1945 while playing for an army team. it was an organized game, tournament, etc after manila was liberated and maybe even after V-J day. anyhow that's the story that made the papers, etc way back when. it was a big deal at the time. seems kinda trivial now, but a lot of things fall in this category for me nowadays.

Hey okla, yes the name sounds familiar but my other colleague by the name of Jowyn Arcillana knows more baseball history. Jowyn is one of the few Filipino who smahed a home run outside Rizal Park. He was a big fella (6'3 and had a bodybuilder physique) For an additional trivia, I was a member of a "battery' as I was a lefty pitcher that played along side Jowyn. So that is an additional information why I am also called battery boy.

hey batts....being a southpaw hurler, i betcha you had a great "breakin' ball". right? extra tough on lefthanded hitters. i still gotta think your super, superior knowledge of the corregidor "batteries" and related military subject matter as relates to the bataan, corregidor and the early 1942 struggles warrants the title "battery boy".

hey okla, I am amazed! How did you know that my favorite pitch was the breaking ball? With four days rest or more, I can pitch a shut-out and there was time I piched a no hitter.

hey batts....a no hitter no less. i wish a st louis cardinal scout had been scoping out the diamond talent of the philippines back in your younger days. you may very well have missed your "calling".

Hi Okla,
Basedball was a sport I learned quickly. Dont put me at bat and I tell you I am the worst hitter you can ever imagine. But put me at the mound and a good catcher, then that is a different story. Taxing to the shoulders though if you pitch 7 - 9 innings. I had a 10- inning game once and after that my pitching coach did not put me on the mound for another 9 days.
Yup it was not my "calling" then. I was primarily a basketball player and played for my high school. On my senior year, the right knee gave way. I guess sports was not my calling afterall.
So here I am as batteryboy.

hey batts.....i must disagree on one point. It was I who was the most inept hitter possible, hitting ninth in the batting order of my high school team. the pitcher hit in front of me. i was, if i say so myself, an excellent left fielder therefore i was still in the starting lineup most days. hitting was certainly another subject, although i did lead my team in bases on balls and stolen bases. kind of a paradox for a guy who could'nt beg, borrow or steal a base hit most trips to the plate. i will say this about you being "battery boy". you and your running mates on the corregidor board make my days most enjoyable as we "re-fight the 1942 campaign" and you folks valliant efforts to delv into the past and keep coming up with interesting new "stuff". i look forward to your sharing of new discoveries.

Hey Okla, we have one another thing in common: we both hit 9th in the rotation! Our baseball exchanges made me brought out my dusty mitt. This served me well since '87 and had fond memories when my lady friends would sign their names here. Forgive us guys for being off-topic here. Regards,
